James Terpenning's story began in Vietnam, where he was crippled by polio as an infant. Abandoned by his father, an American GI, James was airlifted to the United States where he was adopted and grew up to compete as a gold and silver medalist in the International Paralympics. James now works as a civilian computer specialist for the Air Force, and despite the demands of a growing family, which includes four children and a brother with cerebral palsy, he finds time to speak at local schools about overcoming disability. Now the family's tiny house has been replaced with a spacious new home from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," built with the help of United Rentals.
