Carlton Marshall followed in his father's footsteps when he became a Dallas police officer. In 2000 he met and married Susan, an accomplished homicide investigator, and started a family. Carlton was serving as lieutenant of the Dallas SWAT team when he was shot in the neck, subsequently losing the abilities to speak, hear and perform simple tasks. In addition to accessibility issues, the Marshalls' home was deteriorating to the point where it had become unsafe for their two small children. Now "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and United Rentals have built the Marshalls a safe new home, and modified their barn to host the TROT program - Therapeutic Riding of Texas - a cause close to the family's heart.
