Roger Schwed joined United Rentals as executive vice president and general counsel in 2006 with more than two decades of legal and corporate experience. Most recently, he spent nine years as the general counsel at Maxcor Financial Group, where he provided legal and strategic guidance on acquisitions and joint ventures, advised the board of directors and its committees, handled all Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC and Nasdaq matters and managed all litigation and broker-dealer compliance. Prior to Maxcor, Mr. Schwed was a corporate attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and for Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Earlier, he was a law clerk for the Honorable Eugene H. Nickerson in the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Schwed received his law degree from Columbia University, where he was a member of the Law Review, and his undergraduate degree from Princeton University. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Schwed held management positions with Doubleday & Company and Harper & Row book publishers.
